HEQ5 graticule illumination adjustment

Hi, I'm having trouble with my HEQ5 graticule illumination.

It seems to go from fully dark to over bright (may be maximum) at around level 10.

Is this normal?

Will the Star Adventurer graticule illuminator work in its place. I know I could try this myself but I'm on hols tomorrow and I'm itching to find out.
