Moon, 28th March 2009

Wondering if anyone saw the Moon tonight? It was stunning, even more so through binos. Hope there's some photos out there, I'll be checking the imaging section!

I did, and it was wasn't it. I only saw it through the viewfinder, both with a 55-250 for some earthlight and my Skymax 102 for a big closer. They're both posted up.

Wasn't it a beauty? I called the family out to have a look, it was so pleasing. Great earthshine, but the crescent looked just like a huge smile.

EDIT : Just looked over my shoulder and there she is again.......beautfiul. Now I just need her to sink west pronto so I can get some deep sky pics done

Absolutely stunning. Just clocked that crater Petavius - see S@N magazine p26, top left. Anyone know what that straight line feature is, running from the central peaks to the circumference? It's really clear tonight.

It's a rille. From what i understand, the straight ones are thought to have been formed by a collapse of the surface between two fault lines (which technically I suppose would make it more of a graben or valley?) and the curved ones are thought to be collapsed lava tubes.
