What do people sketch on?

I mean in re: supporting your pad / notebook / paper.  Hold a pad, use an easel of some kind or ???

i hesitate to call my efforts sketching @jjohnson3803 but i kill three birds with one stone  - using this "Really Useful" box to; 1) keep everything together, 2) to use as a makeshift table on my knee, and 3) to keep the lid on when not actually in use to try and keep my notepad as dry as possible...

Same here. Sketchbook on my knees. I am using a Leuchtturm flexible sketchbook for both taking notes and sketching. ..

Top left hand side of the image you can see the plastic folder I use. The clip at the top holds sheets of blank A5 paper. It opens up and inside is a rotating pencil on a length of string.

Ok so after some trial and error I ended up using an artists “pack “perse which consisted of a zipped up case with pencils smudging stick etc on the left then on the right was the pad it’s nice and stable and I added a modded reading light (reddened of course) it works really well for me as it’s a solid place to work on while at the eyepiece 🙂
