SCT to 1.25” visual back or diagonal with click lock/ twist lock/ brass compression and 3 screws

Recommended Posts

Has anyone come across a visual back with standard SCT thread direct to 1.25” and a decent non marking locking system? It’s for a smaller scope and I don’t have room for a Baader 2” click lock or similar because of the focus knob position.

Any leads gratefully received. I asked the guys at FLO but they hadn’t come across one. Baader do one that is T2 thread but not SCT.

Many thanks,

Linton

Or a 1.25” diagonal with SCT thread? Although I’m never sure about diagonals that thread on, they somtimes make rapid and disastrous’U’ turns! Perhaps 1.25” would not be as bad as 2”.

  • lguise changed the title to SCT to 1.25” visual back or diagonal with click lock/ twist lock/ brass compression and 3 screws

Celestron do one, but it's a single thumb screw affair

William Optics do a better "rotolock" one, but its more expensive

I prefer a Baader three screw compression T2 to 1.25" (connected with a SCT to T2... the bresser one is a good value option (and you get some M42 extensions for free))

I combine the classic Celestron T-adapter with the Baader Clicklock 2”to 1.25” adapter. The clicklock has a female T-2 thread at the telescope side as well as a 2” male barrel. The T-2 adapter has an SCT thread on the telescope side and a male T-2 thread.

I did not know about the in-built T-2 thread in the click lock adapter but it works really.

it provides enough space to clear the focus knob on my C8, so I can attach my binoviewers in “straight-through” configuration…

Many thanks to all for the suggestions, plenty for me to look at. I’m trying to fit to an Orion Optics OMC 140, there’s not much room between the focuser and the existing visual back which is the typical single screw version supplied with most SCTs. I have tried a Baader SCT to 2” which I have on another scope and it’s just to large. I don’t need 2” fit so looking to find a better 1.25” connection.

If your not familiar with this scope the focuser is the top of a micrometer which is small diameter, I'm looking to increase this diameter for even finer control, hence trying to keep room from the visual back.

Best wishes

Linton

I have the Baader items [images below] that is use with my 're-modded' ETX105].

  • [1] 1.25" SCT visual back.
  • [2] ETX to SCT adator ring.
  • [3] items [1] & [2] attached to my ETX105 backplate.

Images below showing there is not a lot of space between the built-in focusser and any SCT/2" accessories.

That well known worldwide internet warehouse [and the one in the far-east] have wide range of nylon-tipped machine screws, as the Baader SCT visual back does not include the brass compression ring/collar.

When I use my SCT star diagonal, I use an SCT extension tube as well.

You could use a combination of a sct to t2 wiith a t2 to 1.25" eyepiece holder although it would not be a single item.

The picture below is a sct to t2 adapter then a male to male t2 adapter and then a t2 to 1.25" focuser. That might do the job (there are lower profile 1.25" adapters out there that would shorten it slightly).

I had no idea there is a female T2 thread hidden inside a Baader 2”to 1.25” Clicklock  adapter. I already have one of these, so it looks like my best route may be the slim SCT to T2 adapter threaded to the Clicklock.

one of the great things about this forum is that someone else will so often have encountered the same problem and can help with a solution. Thanks for all the photos and ideas.
