Tripod refurbishment

Hi the chance to do any observing this month has been nil from my location so I have been refurbishing an old theodolite tripod to use with my Skywatcher az mount which is very stable 

I have had this for over 40 years

I did manage about 15 minutes looking at the Sun  then the heavens opened up

I spent my formative Site Engineering years lugging a tripod like that, plus a Hilger Watts 20sec Theodolite in a steel case ,up and down various Motorway and Construction sites.  Happy days!

Hi thanks for your comments ,I too have used the same tool for years they are very stable tripods and very well made

Brilliant! those are steady tripods, I've seen them in construction equipment stores and wondered about just such a mod, they can be pricey.

They’re nice tripods and there’s loads of them around- I needed one for my Tals and found one quite cheap on ebay. It seems to be the exact same as the Telementor tripod. Yours looks very handsome . I like what you’ve done with the ep tray/leg brace 👍

Thanks they  are available from time to time  car boot sales are good places to find them

this is the second one I have modded
