Imaging the milkyway

Recommended Posts

The norm is a nice wide camera lens of say 14mm..

Your setup will be sampling far lower to image targets within the milky way...

As a example, with my 14mm samyang I can see the lagoon etc as red blobs... With your setup I'd expect them to be rather large

Hi All,

Apologies in advance if this is a silly question.

Is it possible to image the milkyway with a CMOS camera?

My set up is:

Heq5 pro mount

Aisair

Skywatcher 72ed

ZWO533MC pro

Thanks for your help

Simon

I shoot MW on a full frame and 20mm lens

Your combination will have a much narrower field of view, akin to shooting with a 600mm telephoto lens as a guess, so you wont see the MW, rather a crop of it
