Sunshine
š Seriously, does anyone know their rocks well here on SGL? my friend threw a stone in my lap today and said āhere, I found you a neat rock cause I know you like themā he found it while walking along a shoreline of Lake Huron. After looking at this rock for a while I am curious, it is unlike any stone I have seen in my years of occasional fossil hunting. It resembles Martian rock, imagine that! laudropb
Not a meteorite or Mars rock IMHO. Looks to be sedimentary rock.
Barry Fitz-Gerald
Looks like a piece of Pre-Cambrian chert to me, the lamination might suggest it is a fragment of a StromatoliteĀ which is a fossil formed by layers of cyanobacteria which trapped sentiment to build up reef like structures.Ā Almost as exciting as a a meteorite, but not quite. If complex life ever got established on Mars it might well have looked like this. Edited August 3, 2022 by Barry Fitz-Gerald
Tiny Clanger
Gneiss, with maybe some striations caused by glacial transportation would be my guess . Fits with the location.
