What you can do with a £4 charity shop find

A few months ago, I found a screw thread mount Hanimar 135mm f3.5 telephoto lens in my local charity shop for £4. I thought this worth a punt so snaffled it up.

My first attempts after connecting it to the ASI290MC were a failure as I couldn't achieve focus.

I purchases an extension tube (you apparently can never have too many extension tubes?) and on 7th July, put it all together and pointed it at the moon.

The below is the product of the best 20% of 1000 frames, stacked and sharpened in Autostakkert! No subsequent post processing other than a conversion to .png via Paint.net.

Not perfect but, for £4 I'm quite chuffed.

Nice end result for a £4 bit of fun, bet it ended up costing you more than that though in reality.
Sometimes old simple lenses can be real gems and generaly just fun,
I have an old 50mm Fuji that gives really funky Bokeh in terestrial use, its brilliant fun hunting suitable subjects.

It is surprising what you can find in the thrift shops.

SWMBO goes to town with my cousin. They normally hit the Goodwill shops for treasures. 

Sometimes you find real good deals, but many times they try to get just a bit too much for something.

I decided to point it at Deep Sky last night.

Focussing is a bit of a chore as the Bhatinov mask I have that is sized for it doesn't work very well with the amount of light coming through. Also my ASI290MC is probably not the right tool for DS.

Stars are all a bloated and there is a bit of movement evident (HEQ5PRO)
