Stuck ZWO Mini Guidescope...

Recommended Posts

Upon getting my guidescope from delivery, after unboxing and finding out you can unscrew the parts which are use for focusing the stars for your guiding camera, I screwed them to tightly back on now I can't unscrew them again... The arrows shown on the image is what needs to be unscrewed, The horseshoe is only that can come off.

Cheers

The red ring acts as a physical stop so shouldn't stop the front of the lens from unscrewing off, it's there so you can't screw it further into the scope. If you took it apart and forcibly tried screwing them back together there's a chance you've cross threaded it and screwed the threads up. They are a fine pitch thread due to the precision focus required and susceptible to damage if not used accordingly. The front bit should still screw off though if you turn it anti clockwise (looking at the front lens), if the threads are bound you may need to apply a little force.

If the threads are chipped which results in that, should I get it replaced as it is warranted or is it still fine to use?

Did you receive it like that (ie tight threads?). If so you possibly could send it back at which point they'll also confirm. Once you've got it loose you might find it's still okay as long as you screw them together without cross threading it, photo screw threads tend to be quite fine so make sure the two parts are square before applying any force to the turning.

It's worth getting a pair of rubber strap wrenches similar to these which should loosen them, as well as freeing any stuck adapters etc. 🙂

Alan

Problem solved, next time I will not screw it tightly as it will result in that problem again. Thank you for the advice and help and wish you clear skies. :)
