The Observatory Assistant Returns.

My No.1 grandson and observatory assistant, along with his family, emigrated to Oz in 2006. Prior to that, he would spend time with me in the obsy, and loved taking pictures of the Moon, which he would proudly take into his school science lesson.

We have treated him to a flight back to UK, and he'll be staying with us for 4 weeks, before returning to Oz. So, I'm really looking forward to spending some quality time with him, out in the obsy again. Hopefully have him take some images of his choice, and take them back to school in Oz.

Off down to Gatwick tomorrow, to collect him, and I'm one 'happy chappy' :)

We have of course been over three times to OZ, to see him and the family, but this is the first time he's been back to UK.

Where does he want to visit first ?, PC World :), as they have nothing like it in Western Australia. :D

So, four weeks with my grandson, and then off to SGL4, magic!!!:)

Sounds like you and your grandson will have some quality time together.

It must be very special for you to have this lovely relationship.

Lets hope for many clear nights.

Sounds like your going to have a great time whatever the weather, and it's a grandparents perogative to spoil their grandchildren isn't it?

Hope you have a great time, looking forward to seeing you at SGL 4.

I'm sure the lad is just as excited as you Dave. Great stuff, and I'm sure his stay will be a very rewarding one for all concerned.

For the record, How old is he.?

Hopefully he can take some pictures back with him that will astound his School chums. Pity you aren't bringing him along to

SGL4:D

He's just 15 Ron, and at this moment in time, he's up at 36000 ft over the Indian Ocean, with and 11 hour, and then a 7 hour flight ahead of him :D.

Some 28 hours travelling in all, from leaving his home, to us getting him up here to Suffolk, The wife and I have done there and back three times now, and never look forward to the journey. We'll be doing it again later this year.:)

Quite an adventure for a 15 year old, to travel from the other side of the world on his own. Albeit, as an unaccompanied minor, we are having him escorted/chaperoned at all stages of the journey.

His parents handed him over to airline staff at the airport, who then took him through departures, and saw him onto the aircraft. He is then seated near to the cabin crew. When he changes planes, he is met at the aircraft door by airline staff, who stay with him until its time to board the aircraft for the next 'leg' of the journey, and then see him onto the aircraft.

At Gatwick he will be met at the door of the aircraft, escorted through immigration and baggage reclaim, and then brought out to us. We then have to show formal indentification, before they will hand him over to us. All very impressive, and no extra charge.

You're right Steve, it us grandparents right to spoil our grandchidren, and we wouldn't have it any other way :)

Mick, yes we do indeed have a special relationship with this one, as he was our first, albeit our other grandson is just as special, but he only lives a couple of miles away :).

Quite an adventure for the young man. He will be in good hands for sure Dave, there will be no doubt about that. The Airline will treat this as Ultra Important. He will be So pleased to see you at the hand over. This will be a memorable holiday for him Bring a few pics. to Lucksall of his visit, if you take any that is.:).
