M3 image detective job

Recommended Posts

Somehow after imaging the Moon with an Asi 224mc + IR 850 Pass filter, I decided to try and image M3, I am pretty sure I took the IR Pass filter off, and replaced it with the IR Cut.
But how did I end up with 60 frames of 1 sec, with no colour at all?

Thanks for any insight.

All the subs are now 8 bit greyscale 🤔

You set them as RAW8. That would explain things. deBayer after calibration but before star alignment. Whatever program you use for stacking, will have a setting for this.

Also, RAW16 for dso imaging will help during post processing

Thanks Wim,

I may have found the solution from what you have said, in Affinity there is the option RAW, as soon as I put it to RGGB colour appears! It was on Inferred.
I will stack it again, and see what I can get out of it.

Still a bit noisy, but I can work on it. Not bad for 1 second subs!

At this stage in the process, I would apply green reduction, to make the colours pop. Scnr green in pixinsight or hastalavista green in ps.

With Affinity, but going in the right direction. Yes it was very green I see now. But considering I started out with greyscale, I think we did ok!

Took your advice and got the HLVG plugin for PS 64bit, and it is much better than my attempt with Filter Background in Affinity. Really pleased with the result. Can also use the same plugin in Affinity.
Thanks!
