Carbon fibre solar finder

A colleague had to trim a carbon fork steerer tube on a high end bike the other day. I managed to salvage the off it which I repurposed today.

I found an end cap that was a little oversize so I wrapped some insulation tape around the end of the tube to fit. I drilled a hole in the cap and secured it in place with some more tape.

I then took an offcut of grease proof paper and taped it to the opposite end.

Having done this, I dug around in the spares box and found a pylon from a cheap RDF I bought for my mirrorless camera, used some self adhesive pads to stick the tube to the mount then reinforced it with a couple of zip ties.

It seems to work fine hand held. I just need to wait for the right weather and a day off to test it in anger.
