Replacing a latitude adjustment T-bolt for an EQ1 mount (Skywatcher Capricorn-70 EQ1)

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I'm a first time telescope owner and purchased a used Skywatcher Capricorn-70 EQ1 from ebay.

Unfortunately, it seems to be missing a T bolt for altitude adjustment. It also didn't come with a wrench to tighten the screws in the tripod legs (I have tried to include images of the problems).

Does anybody know of a place that sells replacements for these parts, or could anyone recommend an alternative budget mount/tripod that I could use (maybe an easier AZ mount for <£40).

The mount looks visually identical to this orion EQ1: https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/view/50738860/orionr-eq-1-equatorial-mount

You could replace the altitude T-bolt with any bolt of suitable length with the correct thread.

As for the loose leg bolts, any hardware shop or car accessory store should be able to sell you a suitable spanner or adjustable wrench.

You won't get an easier mount for <£40 unless you are very lucky and find one in a charity shop.   There are mounts that would suit you better but they would cost you more like £200 new.

I had this problem with the missing Alt inclination bolt at the rear of the mount on my EQ1, I replaced it with an M8 x 50 stainless steel cap head set screw from a local industrial fasteners supplier. They were kind enough to supply both the set screw and wrench key free of charge.IMG_20240922_145028_523.thumb.jpg.c5433e06bab44237c184f0c7167c25f1.jpg
