Bad luck - I’ve missed countless flares in the past so know how you feel. But there will be lots more to come.

Thanks Roy - the still was captured at 1345 BST, and the animation of it subsiding is about 8 mins between 1345-1353 (400 or 500 frames taken in about 0.8-1s every 60s for 8 mins) - complete fluke b/c I was just tinkering, saw the spike & thought I'd see if I could get some time-lapse style footage.  Was not expecting it would subside so quickly!

That must be it Roy - time of surge prom, emerging from area of extreme brightness on the limb, was 14:45 in UK. Your shot looks like it was still growing, but it quickly fragmented and dispersed. First X-class flare I’ve seen.
