Bright Supernova in Virgo - 2022hrs

Recommended Posts

Bright Supernova reported in Virgo. Host galaxy is NGC 4647 which is right next to M60. I observed the SN last night with my 10" dob. Currently it's list at Mag 13.0 and has been brightening the past few nights.

I found this image really helpful in identifying the SN.

Thanks for the heads-up on this SN @Littleguy80

So, early this morning I still had motivation to image this brightening supernova and I'd estimate a brightness of mag 12 at the time of my imaging run (between 1:30-2:45).

15x300s (1.25h) OSC BIN1 subs with IDAS D2 LP filter on the RC6. Captured using ASIair-Pro, processed in PI.

CS, Andy

Brilliant image, Andy. Thanks for posting. Lovely to see a capture like that after seeing it at the eyepiece!

It's getting as bright as the entire galaxy..

8" Newt, QHY183, IDAS LP1, 14* 300 sec subs, dark frame subtraction, no flats, no bias.

So last night I managed to capture about 250 x 20 sec subs/images of M60 & NGC4647, about 1hr 25mins of data with my ASI533 MC Pro.  Seeing conditions weren't A1, but nice to capture events like these.

Used Meade LX10 with a 6.3 Reducer.

Great image. The SN is super bright compared to the host galaxy.

The Moon has other plans for the next week or so.....

Isn't that the way it always is.  If it isn't the moon, it's the clouds.

My partner loved it when I went out with the scope during the winter....it gave her a chance to watch wall-to-wall soap operas! Now, by the time it's dark enough to go out, she's safely tucked up in bed....😆

But the time it gets dark enough it's time to think about hitting the sheets.  0500 comes way to early these days.
