Three amazing filaments on show today - 3rd April 2022

Clear skies at the moment, and I’ve popped the solar scopes out so I can observe during rests from gardening!

There are three huge filaments on show today, best I’ve seen for a while. Two are quite thick, relatively short (one being an ex filaprom from yesterday I think), and the other is a huge, thin arc which looks amazing.

Well worth a look.

Still there today - only had five minutes of sunshine but the filaments are beautiful - best of this cycle that I’ve seen so far.

Thanks Mark, no chance here. Might take the scope to work tomorrow and see if I have any luck.

Very quick scribble of today’s sun. Even during solar minimum and the start of the new cycle, we’re used to seeing impressive proms and active regions. But large dark filaments like these have been almost entirely absent since Cycle 24 was still highly active.

It was good early evening Stu.  Had some great views through the PST, and grabbed this image from GONG when I came indoors.

Thanks Paul. That makes @Highburymark’s sketch even more impressive 👍👍
