Alternative webcam to Philips SPC900?

Hi John, I'm afraid it looks like a cmos sensor so no long exposure mods.

On the site selling them, I went to their driver download section and the driver for Mac computers will install it as a Sonix SN9C201. Searching the web I came across this webpage

It will probably make a good planetary webcam though.

Bye the bye, The Ebay auction is selling them as ccd webcams but the website advertised on the listing just mentions "True CCD resolution" which isn't exactly the same thing.

As Milamber said, there are too many pins for it to be a ccd chip.

I have a couple of 3cm home connect webcams here, they have ccd's (though they are the Sharp ones) and also use the 16510 driver chip which means the le mod is simple enough. I doubt I will use them now, just have them for the daughter to use as simple webcams. If anyone wants to do a swap with anther webcam I am open to offers ... got driver disks and manuals too though one has a damaged "foot" which stops it clamping to your laptop.

Ah well, I'll still convert it and post up the results. I was playing with the idea for solar system stuff anyway. If it works, I might get my SPC900 LX modded.

It looks reasonably priced and I like the metal casing.

Like you, I'd use a webcam for planetary imaging. Leave the deep sky stuff to the SLR, so I'm still interested.
