Sahara sandstorm might be reaching us tonight / tomorrow

Heard on the news this evening about a Sahara sandstorm causing parts of Portugal, Spain and maybe France to be directly affected, causing them to be in a red haze.

We had similar a few years ago, and it may also be affecting us tonight to a lesser degree.

Here's an allsky photo from within the last few minutes, it looks to me like it could already be here? Its looking quite pink out there, loving the moon halo too.

On a slight tangent, who remembers the fires in Portugal, the smoke drifting north, how pink and orange the sky was? Think it was around October 2018?

I remember the 'red haze event' you mentioned well : October 16 2017.

I was working that day but managed a couple of pics of it with my phone.

I've just remembered to check and sure enough, dust all over the allsky.

Red skies here all day and a coating on my car even the rain when it came down early afternoon was "dirty" as mentioned on radio 1 on my way home from work.

Dust all over my car... I'd only recently cleaned it and discovered that it is blue!

Here's an animation of the past 48 hours showing the progression of the duststorm in false colour IR channels. Data from EUMETCast. Cornwall seems to have escaped it as the wind from the west is keeping it away. 🙂
