Still looks like a very decent spot, and well worth getting the white light filters out this week, if we weren’t buried under permacloud.

Mark, had a brief opportunity to observe AR2954 this morning, and the umbral region has been joined by a second one which has just come onto the disc. So, there may be more to come yet.  As you say, we'll worth keeping an eye on.

Pic a single frame taken at 10.34 with the Altair 80-EDR and Olympus camera.

Was good to observe it today, interesting to see the different perspectives of what are, presumably, similar sized spots. The one nearer the limb more foreshortened due to the more oblique angle.

I could make out both the small spots yesterday with my 8" but none of the other smaller ones that showed on SOHO.

This was at 3pm EST.

I had thought from the flare that was seen we were about to see something spectacular!

Yesterday lunchtime in my 76mm with Herschel Wedge, I could see both of the outlined spots in this edited version of Paul’s image. The top one was split into a group of five with one a little separated, and the bottom one looked like it was split in two, or at least with a partial dividing line down it.

The faculae around the two larger spots was very nice to see.

They are quite nice spots in 2955 and 2954, hopefully both active regions as they come more onto the disk.  Managed all three wavelengths as of the 22nd Feb. I counted five small spots in AR 2953 as well but the spot yesterday in 2952 has disappeared.

These were my humble smartphone offerings yesterday through the 76mm. 954 and 955 are just nice, big, classic sunspots at the moment. As Nigella said, 5 spots in 953 but one had a little ‘eyebrow’ :)

Weather's looking good for Friday here. So, as I'll be home from work about 1:30, I'll expect a good session on these 👍

Good shout. Friday looks good, and weekend might have clear spells. The spots should be nicely positioned by then too.
