Mounting options for guide scope

Recommended Posts

Quick question.

I currently mount my ZWO mini guide scope to my DSLR via an L bracket but I’m about the swap the DSLR for a ZWO ASI533MC-Pro. Is this the best option to mount the guide camera:

I’m mounting my Sigma 150-600 camera lens to a star adventurer via the lens’s mounting bracket.

Thanks.

Hi Craig

Have I got this right ?

You're going to mount the Sigma lens to the Star Adventurer with the Sigma's mounting bracket.

Then attach the ZWO ASI533MC-Pro to the lens.

Clamp the 78mm ring around the ZWO ASI533MC-Pro.

And attach the ZWO mini guide scope onto the top of the 78mm ring ?

The Sigma bracket is trying to cope with  heavy overhangs on that single attachment point.

But might actually work with the Sigma on wide-angle !

If you look at similar setups with scopes:

You'll see the scope is attached to the mount with a substantial dovetail

The scope is attached to the dovetail with two clamshell rings

And the guidescope is mounted over the centre of gravity on the two clamshell rings.

That's right, I'm trying to achieve the setup in your image. It's not exactly conventional but I can't can't see any way of doing it differently
