ZWO camera cable tidy / strain relief options

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to mount a pegasus power advance onto my Esprit as part of tidying up the cable situation on my setup, I'm also wondering if there is a solution ready available for ZWO cameras for routing power and USB cables in order to reduce strain on the ports and assist with routing cables? I've seen a few videos where owners have what look look like 3d printed solutions.  I'm unable to find anyone selling such an item, seems like an ideal way of reducing future issues with loose ports etc.

I nearly do 🙂

I did one but needs some adjustments and I will print another, so will keep you informed

Great, I have my own 3D printer now, and am in the process of learning the design software, amongst other things…
BTW I am still using the handle you printed for me some time back, on my TakFSQ85…👍🏼

I 3D printed this to mount my Pegasus Ultimate Powerbox  with a hard drive piggybacked for extra memory.

I didn't think I needed much in the way of strain relief around the box itself as there was no movement on them, I would like some for the camera though and am on with it.
I did a design as below to give you the idea for a QHY268M, needs some small adjustment and will print another.

Oh yes your right it is.

Before I got this in 2021 I had the advanced so also have a 3D print model for that and had a USB hub piggybacked onto it.

Do you have a drawing on the back of the QHY with measurements where the holes are, and size of the camera, as I could design my own, while I am away on my iPad as I have some design software on here…?

I used this drawing off the QHY website and blew it up till it was full side and measured from that.

I did this drawing which is pretty accurate I think

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the camera diameter….I guess it’s in the drawing, but an engineer I am not…😂😂

According to the QHY website it is 90 mm and I measure it at about 90.3 mm. It wasn't actually on that drawing so I have added it.

My obsy is actually quite tight, especially around the far side where the back of the cameras are, so my issue is catching the wires where the plugs enter the camera, and maybe bending or damaging a port on the camera, so I think I am looking as something the same as the one @tooth_dr has made for his ASI2600, with protection around the cable ports, I printed this for my lodestar X2…

Not my design or picture I might add….

I think it is a great design and will be using the same idea myself

Actually it’s no good, glad I did not print, as the ports are the wrong way  round, went by the diagram above too…🤔🤔 but looking at the back of the QHY camera in the image above it’s a mirror image of what the diagram shows…..

Maybe it’s an engineering thing….like I say, an engineer I am not….😂

Ok, finished design, not so much cable relief, as plug protection against my clumsy elbows while moving around the obsy, as I can easily hit with elbow and bend or even damage a socket on the camera…also added bolt to tighten to camera, just need to print now and see how it looks…
