WHat is this nubbin for?

Either it was originally drilled and tapped for some sort of thumbscrew or is something to push against with your thumb while extending the tripod leg or maybe to gently push down on with your foot to press the leg into the ground. Or non the the above.

As Nubbin's go, that's a good one! 🤣

It looks very much like a blank thumb screw part of the casting. I've only got the 1.75" version of the tripod and it doesn't have these on but the 2" version is a different design.

Maybe SkyWatcher use that for another application or maybe it's a generic tripod fitting with multiple applications?

No purpose. But that's the same bloke who used to work at Soyuz, got sacked from there for drilling random holes in stuff as well. Tuff to find a job after that I guess no one cares much about it at Synta which is why he's now working there..
