Redundant Synscan handset - or is it?

Now I've moved over to using EQMOD software to guide my HEQ5 my handset is now sitting in my accessories box. I was looking at the Skywatcher web site at the multi mount (I have the Acuter Merlin version but it looks identical) and they say that they have a synscan version. Is there anyone here who could say if I can use the handset and if so any ideas on the pinouts of the sysnscan? I've read elsewhere about the supplied handset mods and pinouts. So I think it could be doable as it were.

I too have a Synscan handset doing nothing as I am also using EQMOD on my HEQ5Pro and was wondering exactly the same thing about the Merlin and Skywatcher m/f mount.

Have you found anything out yet? or have you tried plugging the handset into the Merlin to see if it works?
