This project seems to have caught the public's attention. Yesterday my boss put me on the spot during the morning meeting, "Peter you're an astronomer, tell us about this telescope..." After wishing for MS Teams to disconnect, a fifteen strong team of nurses, healthcare assistants and admin staff received a three minute lecture about JWST. Slightly embarrassing. 😬

Watching the solar array deploy was a bit emotional I have to say, didn’t expect to see that.

I bet they loved it! when you can see someone has a passion about something people will be interested regardless. I bet it was a good 3 minutes.

What a great launch and so fitting on a Christmas day, demonstrates what can be achieved when nations pull together.  Hope all goes just as perfectly for the rest of the mission.

Watched both on YT and there was live coverage on 503 which was good.

Really enjoyed the launch and all the information going into orbit. It was wonderful to see the solar panel being deployed. It almost took me back to Apollo 11 descending to the lunar surface over 50 years ago and the worry that all was going to be okay.

Enjoyed the launch but on the same note quite disappointed. The coverage I thought was very poor compared to what space X produce. By this I mean appart from the first 10 seconds the rest was mostly just computer simulation showing the rocket as it disended and staged

Unfortunate... But it went, almost immediately, into cloud? 🥳

I suppose they could have flown a plane above the cloud,
but maybe they take no chances re. clearing the airspace?

Some nice (brief) JWST views from above... and receding! 😉

Family we’re supportive of a hold on dinner to allow the full watch.

They even sat and watched The Queen at 15.00 which never happens.

It was a nice touch to have a camera installed so we could see the JWST uncouple and proceed on it’s way.

I think there is a deployment milestone nearly every day now for a month.
