Light Panel Recommendation

Recommended Posts

Now that I've moved into the world of CMOS imaging, I've lost the luxury of the DSLR AV mode when it comes to making flats.

It's time to make a flat panel and I'm looking for recommendations...  Needs to be dimmable and big enough for at least an 80mm aperture.  Anyone got any?

Hi,

I've used an iPad as a flat panel for my 100mm refractor and an A3 tracing light pad bought from Amazon for my C9.25 SCT.

Light pad - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08LV43CM2/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

On the iPad, I installed the APP 'RGB Light'. The iPad also needed a diffuser to reduce the light level, I simply used one or two sheets of plain white paper.

Both worked well although some careful setting of the light intensity and exposure time is required to get the best results.

Regards,

Alex

I have done exactly the same as Alex - tablet for 80mm, LED light-pad for the 200mm. As above I have had to add a few sheets A4 or a T-shirt to get he brightness down. Works a treat.

Rather than the t shirt method, may i also suggest getting some light diffusion material like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Seamless-Diffusion-Photography-Lighting-Modifier/dp/B019GSCJFA?th=1

and using some embroidery rings like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stitch-Embroidery-Plastic-Handmade-Crafts/dp/B08DR76MRD/ref=sr_1_92?dchild=1&keywords=embroidery+rings&qid=1635811700&sr=8-92

I stretched 3 layers of the material in between the ring though this can be a little tricky to get perfect at first, then trim it up.
