Stand for heritage 150p

Recommended Posts

I've heard of an upturned five-gallon bucket, the tailgate of a pick-up truck, a large tree stump, the bonnet of an automobile(been there and done that with a Zhumell Z100).  There are also fold-up tables used for caravanning.

Some have even mounted the Dobson base onto a tripod, a surveyor's tripod for example.

What you might also consider is doing away with the Dobson base entirely and get a tripod-type alt-azimuth mount, or even an equatorial mount if you want to track objects, and automatically if you motorise the mount's RA-axis.

This £10 stool from Ikea is recommended by many. Being 3 legged it's more stable than one with 4 legs.

Ikea charge £15 for delivery, so if you're not able to go to an Ikea store it's cheaper to buy it on Amazon if you have Prime:

The Kyrre  stool does get suggested a lot for the 130 heritage, but when I mentioned it in response to one of  the many similar questions on here , someone measured their 150 heritage dob base and thought it wouldn't fit, so maybe the 150 base is a larger diameter ? I don't know , I've not checked the dimensions for myself.

I'm in the process of making one from a section of an old oak tree, in the round. I like the idea of natural materials and new tech combined! Will post pics when done...

I'll only put three legs on it though this will make it more stable on uneven ground.

Until I've finished that, I've been using an overturned old metal dustbin! It's the perfect height and works a treat! combined with a lightweight, folding 'shooting' type chair.

Let us know what you choose/make.

Good luck!

Too right! I'm with you all the way!

I think this has to be my favourite view so far...!
