Well decided to have a go at the seagull wow does this need alot of time I have about 45 minutes of HA and 2 hours of RGB shot with the SV70ED and Canon 40D I could only manage 2 minute exposures on the RGB at iso 800 because of sky conditions and 3 x15 minute iso 800 HA will keep adding as I go

Would longer exposures help?

Yes longer would help, but with light pollution in my yard I will add HA from here, Then head to the local observatory for RGB I can shoot 8 minute subs from there as its about 900 ft higher than my yard
