Hello - another newbie

I am reviving a teenage interest, and will be buying a telescope etc moderately soon. ATM I'm looking around, picking up advice and using (handheld!) binocs - that is when the clouds permit

I've also found that there are an increasing number of good programmes on various documentary channels on Sat TV; I don't expect to get Hubble-like photos from anything I buy but some of these TV progs (if up-to-date) are literally awesome.

I think I'm going to go down the GOTO SCT route for a scope but I'm still unsure as to final budget (what I can 'get away with' - my missus is really quite tolerant!) - perhaps as much as £800 / £1,000 (including extras - eyepieces, barlow, dew shield, power tank (?) etc)

I'll be spending time hunting around the fora to see what advice I can pick up.
