Hi Alan,

Exposure and focus are good but the detail in the pics been "killed" by fairly heavy jpeg compression... What settings did you use for the picture format... or have you resized the image for posting on the forum?

You want to shoot your astro photos in Raw mode and the use the software that comes with the camera to processing them on the computer.

That looks pretty good for a P&S, you've got some nice detail along the terminator showing. Did you do some noise reduction, or heavy cropping ? I know with my Z2, setting the ISO anything over 100 made the image really rather noisy, I don't know the FZ28, but if the ISO goes lower it might be worth forcing it down. Was this handheld or on a tripod ?

The FZ28 isn't your average Point and Shoot...

Its essentialy a "DSLR" with a very able fixed lens...and is capable of producing some excellent images...

I have used one on numerous occasions and buy them for the therapists to use in the clinics for taking pre and post treatment clinical images.. the macro is stunning on them and they take very high quality video as well...

Thank you for your comments. The photo was cropped to remove some sky but not resized. It was taken on 3 MP (sort of digital zoom) JPEG fine, no noise reduction. I guess to improve the quality I have to venture to use the raw mode.
