I’ve just booked fri and sat night In Oaks field  - not sure of my pitch number as booked online but I told them I’m with swag so hopefully near the action.

@Trikeflyer, I would ring them up and ask for a pitch number. They are very helpful and will probably already have allocated you a pitch - I'm sure everything is fine, but it's best to know now just in case there's been a hiccup.

X  These are the pitches allocated so far.

The pitches numbered in Black are hard standing and more suited to caravans.

Those numbered in yellow are grass, more suited to tents.

I’ve got pitch 7. Looking forward to meeting everyone. It’s my first time here. Wishing us clear skies 😀

The numbers are going up, many thanks to you guys for your support after such a disastrous 18 months due to Covid.👍

There are several new faces this time, so fingers crossed that the weather behaves and you can enjoy our near pristine skies. 🔭

Are any of you caravanners, just so I can check on suitable pitches.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just had caravan serviced, all OK (not bad for a 23 year old van). Will now be staying, booked for 7th, 8th, 9th on pitch 4 (so no loud snoring Tony).

Will be our first holiday since the start of the pandemic, really looking forward to it.

OK so I just booked pitch #8 with EHU, for 7th through 10th October, 3 nights, I will be using a small ish tent, and will be bringing EQ6-R and 12" ACF SCT and a bunch of the green eyepieces and LPR filters in wheels.

Looking forwards to meeting everyone in the Astro Group!

I had wanted pitch #25 but alas looks like I left it too late, but at least I did manage to grab a pitch with EHU near the group.

Best Regards,

Alistair G.

Where on the map does the group usually put down their telescopes / observe from ? It would be nice to put my EQ6-R onto hard standing instead of having it sinking into the grass and loosing my alignment.

Also, anyone got any more pictures of the skies there and past meetings showing the scopes etc? Would be nice.

BTW I need a North view for Polaris to use my Ioptron Ipolar on.

Regards,

Alistair G.

Most of us set up on our pitch, using 'pads'  under the tripod to avoid any sinking in soft ground.

Those on hard standing of course don't have an issue.

If room allows, some share a hard standing with other kind members.

There should be images posted in past listings, or if not I'm sure someone will post some for you.

Hi everyone hope you all have a great time at Pencelli, we've ended up at Kelling again this year but I think this will be the last time we will come here now so I hope we don't get blown away, we hope to see you all at the next meet & catch up as it's been way to long.

When I go I take 3 pieces of wood with me 6" squares and put the tripod on them stops sinking.  I would love to have come hopefully next year.

Be good to see you next year. Hope you can make it. It’s been a long time since that mini star party with Nick and Shaun in Walton on Trent.

We local astronomers in SWAG really do appreciate you guys who travel long distances to support this small community of stargazers.

I know several who travel half way across the country for just the weekend only to be disappointed by weather, yet you still come year after year.

I have had a word with the big guy upstairs and the skies area already beginning to clear.

Thank you all very much. 🪐🔭
