The astro purchase / weather curse. How long does it last?

So I bought a two speed focuser for my 8" reflector. The OTA came with the bare minimum.

The day it was delivered, I got 1.5" of rain and clouds. The next day, I got 3.25" and clouds.

Installed it today and the forecast is 80% chance of thunderstorms.

Have I doomed the sunshine state?

Thought Floridian rain lashed down for approx 20 mins, then cleared bright, sunny and humid again for the rest of the day until the next days 20 minute deluge again ? Went to Miami a few times times over the years and always seemed to follow that pattern for weather. But in general the rule is the more expensive the astro equipment you get the more cloud cover ya get! ;)

I have a new focuser and eyepiece I've never used. I'll assume at some point the sky will clear.

It's especially frustrating when others are saying they've had a great night.

Until I started with imaging, I didn't believe there was a direct correlation between hardware and weather, and as kit started to be delivered it was spring so it was cloud season.  Chalked it off to coincidence, until the day I organised to borrow an SV305 (which I'm finding is quite a nice camera for the money, now I've got the quirks ironed out) and the village got hit by a tornado.  Just don't organise a quick get-away to north eastern Spain for the next few weeks, as it will be cloudy and lashing it down as I've just paid for the aforementioned camera.

IT WAS JUST A FOCUSER!

Am I really the one to blame for this?!

Depends how big, shiny and expensive the focuser was 😉

On a serious note though - stay safe....that thing looks nasty!

That matches my Experience in Jacksonville when I lived there

The clouds last in proportion to the money spent.

I’ve got c£7K in new kit since June 2020. None yet seen first light.

so, I am expecting at least another 4 months of bad skies yet.
