A perfect night, spoiled...

About 9:30 Friday night I paused before going into the house, and saw that the sky was as dark as I have seen it in a year. I could clearly see many more stars than appear on the average night, and the Moon had not risen yet. The temp was about 0º, which isn't too cold for viewing, and the air was dry and crisp.

However, I had just come back from taking my wife to dinner for Valentine's (OK, it was the 13th, but try and get a reservation for the 14th, eh?) and it was as much as my life was worth to get the telescope out and start looking at stuff. I think the dark sky gods are laughing at me.

I know the feeling well, no matter how much you tell yourself you are doing the right thing (for the sake of world war 3 not breaking out) half of you still wants to be out there with the scope!

Thanks, guys. I haven't weathered the cold this winter as well as I did even a few years ago, so to have everything come together and not be able to go out really stung. It's peeing down rain tonight...
