Dalmellington Observatory - hellish news

Recommended Posts

Me and a friend visited there a few years ago. It's our 'local' observatory. I remember using one of their Sky-Watcher Dobsonians and also the big telescope, fitted with a TV eyepiece.

I hope they catch the scum that did this! 😠

All that effort by the staff there, plus all that expensive equipment, etc! 😢

Just saw that on FB. Leaves you speechless doesn’t it. It looked an amazing facility, I do hope it can be rebuilt either with insurance or donations or both!

I’m hoping to see a crowd funding that I can contribute to to come up so they can get back up and running.

That’s in addition to the Charity funding option already available.

Sadly there are folk who take pleasure in ruining the pleasure of others.

If this was a deliberate act, I hope those responsible are identified and brought to justice.

Intentional or otherwise, I hope something comes of any possible appeals and funding campaigns.

It's awful, only just found out from family who live near there. Was hoping to visit in October when I've a wedding to go to in Ayr. I was looking forward to seeing it. Hope they can get some crowd funding campaign going.

Words fail me.  Buildings and equipment are replaceable but the time, effort and devotion of those who made the original possible  can never be..  I'm as gutted as the remains.      ☹️

If you use the inline sales website named after a river, go to smile.Amazon.co.uk and you can select to have donations made to Scottish DarkSkiesObservator

Terrible news, I'm the membership secretary of our local astronomy club and we've just agreed to send a donation.

Hope they can get back up and running again soon.

But why (if it was started deliberately) do people do this ?

Sadly, those who do things like this and other senseless acts do not qualify as people!

And with all the goodness in most "peoples" hearts and souls, there will have to come a time when those guilty of things such as this are dealt with severely.
