M42 M43 and the running man Feb 13th

Had another go at this target with the new rig. I used a Skywatcher LP filter. Darks, flats and dark flats were used.

Any thoughts or comments, I think this may have been missed in the move.

I think it was lost John as I missed this one.

All I can say is for 2 min subs this is awesome work. Running man is clearly visible and the stars are pin points at that exposure time.

Can't wait till you do some guided work and maybe 6 min exposures.

Cheers Mick. If the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to grab a whole load more data at this sort of time or maybe 3 minutes and see what happens. I've got some cables due to arrive so I can start connecting things up for guiding.

Forgive the dumb/noob question but I thought you didn;t get any colour through a C80ED??

I am thinking of getting one of these for my first scope so I am keen to understand how you got this picture as it is so beautiful

The colour is what the camera detects with long exposures.

The scope does not detect it.

What you do get with the C80ED is very little, if any false colour (caused by chromatic aberration, the lenses inability to focus all three colours of light at the same point). This means, the resolution is better than a comparable size achromat, and you don't get blue/violet fringes around brighter objects. As Mick said, the colours are down to the longer exposures the camera can achive. Visually you won't see the colour, your eyes aren't sensitive enough.

But saying that I can see green and tint of blue in the M42 with the 16" lightbridge.

So I think the bigger the apperture maybe the moore colour you see.

That's pretty cool, seeing the colours. I guess it's the aperture that counts for that. In a C80ED you aren't going to see any colour though.

Centering on M43 gives a nice FOV with plenty of room for M42 to grow into with the longer exposures...

Just look at all that lovely HA just waiting to leap out...if the sensor was set free...

Cheers Billy... As for setting free the sensor on the 450d... It's not going to happen. I have some ideas though ....

If it was my main DSLR I wouldn't dream of it either (well not for a few weeks anyway) ... once your autoguiding and get the sub lenght up it will start to appear anyway...

A pair of Canon fit MaxDSLR adaptors will complete my setup......... for now

Indeed... even more so then...and you do stirling work with it on the terestrial stuff so no point "comprimising" it...
