Chris at DIY Astro joins FLO

Recommended Posts

We are very pleased to say @Chris at DIY Astro will join FLO following Martin's retirement 🙂

Chris has been interested in astronomy from a young age. His fascination with the night sky increased significantly when in his teens he upgraded his wobbly department store telescope (gifted to him as a child) to a 6" Newtonian. He later studied astronomy at University of Hertfordshire where he met his wife, Bella, on their very first day. After Uni Chris worked in radiology while Bella now works in the editorial department at the Royal Astronomy Society.

Chris appeared on our radar when he joined SGL and again when he started his DIY Astro YouTube channel. Unlike most other astronomy YouTube channels, DIY Astro focuses on encouraging new astronomers with discussion and reviews of affordable astronomy equipment. An important area often overlooked.

With his passion for astronomy and ability to communicate, we think he will fit in nicely at FLO.

Welcome aboard Chris 🔭🌖☄️🪐🤗

Thanks so much everyone! :) I feel so incredibly fortunate to be given the chance to work within the astronomy community, especially at FLO! :) I literally feel like a kid at Christmas who has has just received a non department store telescope!

I've known for a few weeks now, but I think it's only just really sinking in! I was a bit stunned to begin with lol

A massive thank you to Steve and Grant at FLO! and to the my fellow supportive SGL members 🙂 I'm looking forward to giving it my all! 🤩

What fantastic news.  I had the pleasure of meeting @Chris a few years ago to collect a lovely Bresser AR127L and, as with any on SGL, he’s a thoroughly lovely chap.  Thrilled for him and FLO.

Hi Paul, I remember that day well as It was great meeting you too :) I was glad the Bresser was going to a good home. Yes it was tricky to mount, but the views were almost cathartic through that thing! I wouldn't mind another one day :)

I've dealt with Martin a few times, either via email or on the phone.. a really helpful person he went over and above customer service, so I'd wish him the best in his retirement and hope Chris enjoys his new post.. good luck to you both

It's a dream job that's for sure, Be cool to get a guided tour round the flo offices and warehouse, that would make a good video lockie 👍

I'll be working remotely from home in East Anglia, but that does sound like a cool idea!

Really pleased for you Chris. I am glad that we met a few years ago at an astronomy show for a chat and as you know I have always enjoyed your videos. Congratulations to FLO and your new appointment.

Pleasures all mine, Mark :) I remember that day so well because It was great to finally meet some of the people including yourself from the forum in person! Plus there was a couple of great big halls full of telescopes, mounts, eyepieces, cameras etc

Congratulations Chris, I've only just come across your YouTube channel and find the content fantastic.

(While waiting for my Sky-watcher 200P to arrive, I today purchased a Celestron FirstScope from Flo after watching your video. Something to get me started while I wait for the big Dobsonian)
