I am  watching  How the Universe Works

and  I am  learning  about  Jupiter  so  that  is  where I think I  will start

I  will   work on leaning  about  Jupiter for  a couple months and  then move on to  learning   about  Arcturus

but  wont get  to  view  Jupiter in  the  early  morning  sky  till late summer

Have you installed the free program Stellarium? It lets you plan your observing sessions easily.

Why not make a project looking at the bright stars visible at the moment like Arcturus and Vega. You can compare their color and brightness to the information about them like their temperature, size and distance. Wikipedia is a very good source of information.
