wookie1965
How hard would it be to install a synscan goto system on a dob, I have seen quite a few dobs for sale and was thinking of buying one then installing a goto system. I am lousy at star hoping that is the reason I bought my EQ5 and sold my EQ3-2.
Cosmic Geoff
I have never heard of this being done. I am sure it's possible in principle, but seems more trouble than it's worth. Why not put a Newtonian of the appropriate size on your EQ-5 mount?
johninderby
OpticalVision does have info on a DOB SynScan (GoTo) Upgrade Kit but never seen it for sale anywhere. http://www.opticalvision.co.uk/documents/130.pdf And on CN https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/617691-using-a-skywatcher-12-goto-dob-for-eaa/ Edited April 16, 2021 by johninderby
Louis D
If you're simply having difficulty locating objects, why not just install DSCs? I found this thread discussing DSC retrofit options for Dobs on CN. Read it over, and see if there are some good suggestions in there that might apply to your situation.

I had a 200p with the EQ5 and to me that was a bit heavy for the mount I want something between 12" and 16" to get that I would need at least a EQ8 mega money. I have seen a Skywatcher 12" for £450 a Orion optics 12" for £770 and a Skywatcher 400p for £1695.
