Had a rare clear night yesterday.  I got 11 three minute subs ruined by Satellites across 3 different objects. Its getting progressively worse, and starlink satellites are the worse offenders. I'm losing 10% of my subs to satellites. With 40000 of these in orbit, I'd be lucky to get a single sub without one zipping through it. Are you folks seeing similar numbers? Is there a way to clean it up to include in the stack?

Cheers

Prathab

Most stacking software can minimize the effects of satellite trails if not eliminate them.

You are right Prathab, the problem is getting worse. I recently noticed I am now having to bin about 10% of my frames due to Sat trails. The other night, a single 5 min frame had the most so far, 5 trails crossing at different angles. The situation will only get worse now Canada and several other countries want to put up their own Sat broadband constellations.

Using Pixinsight I can still see the trails in my images, I use weighted batch preprocessing and it doesn’t fully eliminate the Sat trail. Does anyone have a specific data process that improves Sat trail removal?

In PI I use Image Integration -> Pixel Rejection -> Linear Fit Clipping. Then there is not a trace of them!

Stacking is great, if you can use it! Meteor hunters are left out in the cold here. Mostly all of my shots are wide angle deep field single shots, and sometimes I catch a meteor. Why I would want more streaks throughout my images baffles! I would prefer a sky free of all such space trash, but rarely get what I want, so I settle for what I can get. Nothing has changed, just rich folk doin a thing because they can.
