Takahashi FC-100 and FC-76 advice

Recommended Posts

The Tak 76 is a handle, and I've not yet needed a handle for either of my FC100D's. They are so cute I can just cradle them in my arms. Takahashi do offer a handle though, which attaches to an optional accessory ring at the lower end of the tube. FLO sell the accessory ring for the FC100D's but I'm not sure about the handle or the finder bracket attachment. Perhaps special order?

I bought a handle from Astroshop a few years ago that I used on my FS 102

But it was red and the colour difference upset me so I took it off.

I agree that the FC 100 is in arm cuddle territory. So is the TSA, but not necessarily for carrying 🤣

That’s just not right John 😂😂😂

No, you are right. It does not cost enough for the Tak mob !

I seem to be able to get by without handles on my refractors :dontknow:

Being OCD must be a pain to live with - I'm glad that I'm not bothered by that sort of thing.

I want to make it very clear that I was definitely joking about putting a handle on two clamshells......

Not sure about Gerry though 😂😂

I wonder if I can ask this on this thread- for the Taks @ 7.5 I wonder if the Pentax 40mm XW is good- whats the new "R" designation? I hope it means little field curvature.

That’s a question I would like to know the answer to too Gerry. FC has always put me off these long focal length Pentax eyepieces, but that may not need to be the case.

I think perhaps a little too much of a tough time. He's a really nice chap and loves his refractors, but I suspect SGL humour may not have been recieved as it was intended.

I’ve got the Pentax XW30 and a Tak FC-76DCU, but haven’t yet tried them together and examined closely for FC. I’ll try next time I’m out, as I’m also considering the XW40 to complete the set again 👍

I can confirm there is noticeable FC on the this scope when using both the XW14 and XW20.

I do also have the Tak 1.04x Flattener, but I can only get this to focus with 1.25” diagonal and eyepieces, otherwise I’d check if that helped with FC too. It was really for photography but have tried it visually too on the FS-60CB, and works well.

Eagerly waiting! :icon_bounce:

Ok, just popped out for 20mins to check this one thing...

Unfortunately, I can report that with the XW30 on my FC-76DCU, there is noticeable FC in about the outer 30% of the field. If I focussed on stars towards the edge and then moved those back to the centre, they would become blurry and vice versa.

I do also see astigmatism, but that’s because I have removed my Dioptrx to test on another eyepiece and have found my eyes have about 0.75 dioptre of astigmatism anyway.

When using the Panoptic 24, I see neither FC or astigmatism in this scope.

If I can find a way to get focus then I will try with my Tak Flattener, but given I’m already using a Baader T2 BBHS mirror diagonal, that might be tricky.

The only thing to bear in mind. Is that supposedly the XW40 has less FC than the XW30 🤔

Hope this helps.
