Horsehead and Flame Nebula in Orion

It's been a couple of months since I was able to do any imaging due to the bad weather. Something had obviously changed since the last time, as I could not get APT to work with the camera. I was getting no plate solving and oval stars! After 2 wasted clear nights, it took an Ascom and camera driver update to solve the problem. I think it was well worth it though!

Looking forward to adding some Oiii.

20 x 360s H-alpha, with darks, flats and dark flats.

W/O Zenithstar 73, ASI294MM Pro.

Thanks for looking.

That is spot on.  Why OIII rather than some RGB?  There is some lovely reflection nebulosity around this area but very little true OIII or SII.  The "OIII" that does show up is probably actually broadband light creeping in from the reflection.

Thanks Martin.

I've not imaged this target before with a mono camera, so hadn't thought of that.

Presumably the red channel would be replaced by the Ha and perhaps use the Ha as a luminance layer?

The approved way is to add the ha to the red channel.  The variations are endless.  The problem using ha as a luminance is the it will negatively impact on the green and blue channels.  It is better to convert the ha enhanced rgb to grey scale for use as a lum.
