Does anyone have any CAD software which can open *.CAD files, which I think originated in CADRA software or maybe QUICKCAD though I can’t find either to download to try. The files won’t open in AutoDesk or any of the other packages I can find online. I’ve attached a sample file here. Thanks for any replies.

I tried hard with this as I use CAD everyday at work but drew a blank. If indeed the files are Quickcad then one suggestion is to look on ebay for a software disc . Though at the moment I can see only one disc for sale and it is a Windows 98 version!

Hi James,

.CAD files are from 'autodesk QuickCad'... to convert to the more popular .DWG format you will need to save them in the new format using 'QuickCAD'.

No other CAD program that I am aware of can open these files.

'QuickCad' can be downloaded here: -

I hope this helps.

Link is to a 3d party website that just redirects you to Autodesk where Quickcad has been conveniently forgotten.

Opening the exaple CAD file in a text editor, the first line reads

412 7.0 Build 54 October 15, 1999   8

So I guess that is a Version 7 file - The last version of Quickcad was V8
