In my experience it’s a really nice camera. It’s ICX825 sensor is very sensitive and with being cooled there is very little dark current.

The only down side compared to a DLSR is the sensor chip size at 11mm diameter.

I mainly used this camera paired to a C5 with a f/3.3 focal reducer for EEVA but did save a few of my stacked fits with 5-10 minutes total exposures

New or second hand?

It'll be a noticeable upgrade from a DSLR in terms of noise, but also has a much small sensor size.

Personally, if I was buying new, I'd go with a cmos from zwo or qhy (such as the zwo asi 1600) as they're  cheaper and have more real estate.

In terms of cmos a 1600 is an old camera.. cmos moves on fast..

As in the real estate comment, I'm not up there on American slang but does that mean that you want to  my a camera to use or as a investment?

Scope would be 80ed and deep sky,I know the larger nebula would be sacrificed with the small sensor, so smaller nebula and galaxy's probably.

M81, m63 etc would be a good fit, if you use a  .85 reducer that would help on targets like m42..

I was using a similar sized chip on my atik 16, and now use a 460 which blows my mind everytime I use it.. excellent cameras

The 1600 is old, but perhaps the 414 is older? Either way as far as I know, the newer CMOS are larger and more expensive. I may be wrong - I just picked a popular model at a comparative prove - so obviously do your research!

By real estate I mean the surface are of the chip!
