Hello every1,

would like to invite you to the annual Dalby Forest Star Festival, this year from Friday 21st til Monday 24th Aug 2009. Situated in the great yorkshire forest, excellent dark skies from one of the highest points of the north yorkshire moors. an opportunity to dust off after the summer lay-up and point skyward.

below is a link for the section of the scarborough and ryedale AS website.

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/simonchristian/astro/starfest.htm

the pictures are from a few years ago and the event is now a bit bigger than suggested, with people driving from all over the country, as far south as devon to savour the dark skies and good company. many people bring the family as there are so many attractions in the area, only a short drive to the coast, scarborough, whitby etc and stream railway at pickering.

would be happy to answer any questions, and look forward to meet some of you there!

regards matt

ps, advise booking early - field may well reach its limit this year (forestry commision regs)

Hi Matt,

Yes we plan to arrive on Thursday.

Don't want to miss a single night.

The skies are simply amazing at Dalby, it's certainly well worth the drive from the Midlands.

The speakers were excellent last year, looking forward to finding out who is lined up for this year.

Cheers

Ron

Just came back from work, an happy to see that I'll be home for the Danby Forest event for the first time.

I'll be contacting them tomorrow, and booking a pass. Even though I'm only an hour or so north.

I'll take my 60mm Lunt along for solar viewing aswell. I'll be there Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings/nights. I either need to find a tent, kip in the car or drive home each day !

See you all there.

Maybe an idea to design a badge, card to place by our scopes so we know each other.

Eddie :icon_rolleyes:

Received my reply email and I'm booked into Dalby Forrest, Thursday thru to Sunday nights. This'll be my first star fest, and cannot wait.

AKO ... will there be any catering etc, or is it a trailer full of sarnies ???:icon_salut:

I've got an Amerille system on order from FLO, which will enable me to use my Equinox 80mm ontop of my C11. We should have great views of Jupiter and the two Ice Giants. Maybe Pluto aswell. Not checked my Cartes Du Ceil yet.

My plan is for visual use for the C11, and, imaging with the LUnt and astrotracker. Anyone with astro imaging knowledge who are there, I'm all ears.

Looking forward to meeting everyone there.

Off to work for 7 weeke on Thursday morning, so I 'll bid you all clear skies for now. We've had none here in Hartlepool so to speak of.

TTFN .... Eddie

i may well b imaging with my 5inch and 3inch refractors, there are usually quite a few that do.

there is no catering as such on the field, within the forest there is excellent food at the visitors center about a mile or so away,a few cafes, i think there is a food van about 400 yards away this year with the mountain bike track but will hav to check. thornton-le-dale is 10mins drive away with several good pubs. we do hav a large still on the go on a morning where every1 brews up and gets together for a chat in the main tent.

will b happy to point any pubs out when u r there or join us for cooked bfast at the vistors center

look forward to seeing u there. which lunt do u hav?

There is a lovely little place up the road from Adderstone Field. I think it's called Dingly Dell, or a similar name. Turn left when you exit Adderstone, drive up to the checkpoint and turn left. Go down the road aways, and it is signposted . Lemon Drizzle cake is marvellous.:icon_salut:

matt,

I'll be there from Thursday, weather permitting until Sunday.

Just give a time and place and I'll be there. The Lunt is the 60mm 600 f.l.

Whilst I've been at sea, I have received my ADM rail from FLO and at last a x4 imagemate. Need to look out for a power tank now.

Looking forward to meeting all whom attend, I personally cannot wait.

Well only a few days to go....

Got my pass whilst I was on my hols.

WHO ...WHEN ...WHERE .....

NO body shouting up here, so I'll start. I'll be driving a 51 reg Picasso, Burgundy in colour. I'll print Atroeddie on a sheet of A4 paper and stick in the car window. I'll be there at 5 on Thursday evening.

Got my power tank, and everything else in hand. I'll be the one 6'3", skin head and a nice tan.

NB ... skinhead is due to god telling me I should only be 5'6" :)

Anyone wishing to get in touch by mobile, email me at astroeddie2002 at yahoo dot co dot uk

we can send mob numbers that way.

Looking forward to meeting one and all there.

Just looked at weather forecast and Thursday night's not looking too bad at the moment, Friday looks a bit iffy though !
