SGL Imaging challenges 2021

Recommended Posts

The imaging challenges are back!  We will be re running many of the previous challenges but will also be throwing in some new ones from time to time.  The aim is to have a range of challenges some of which will be accessible to everyone and some which will be more specialised.   Whilst some may be a test of technical excellence many will give plenty room  for creativity and imagination.   As previously there will be a new challenge every month,  with each challenge normally  running for 3 months, with the exception of special events e.g. eclipses, so, for much of the time, you will have 3 challenges to have a go at!

To enter please submit your entry in the relevant  ‘Astro Challenge’ thread . Please post as much information as possible - when it was taken, how it was captured and processed, etc. The info won't necessarily be used for judging but will help fellow SGLers looking to learn and improve their knowledge and technique.

A team of mods, admin plus occasional guests will judge the entries. Only the first post containing the submitted image will be considered (not the discussions, feedback or number of likes generated in the topic).

The winner of each challenge will receive a coveted SGL challenge mug with  and a virtual medal-of-honour for their SGL signature.

We will also compile and keep a showcase of all the challenges and winners.

Look out for a challenge post on 1st February 2021

The old challenge posts can all be found under the archive section of this board.

When this was mentioned on the StarGaZine tonight it reminded me of the images entered last year that were astro related but captured with/as reflections, that might be an interesting theme.

Yes, DaveW won the widefield challenge, I believe, with a fabluous wintery picture of Orion reflected  in a some still water.  Reflections might be a bit restrictive but something around "different perspectives" might be interesting.  Someone posted a wonderful image in the deep sky section recently which showed a large emission nebula against a rocky terrestial foreground.  I will ponder this one a little but think it has legs!

Can you clarify the rules please?

In particular, must the image(s) be taken on or after the start date of the challenge?

My interest is that my scope is in La Palma and I am stuck in Cambridge until at least the late summer.

I've a whole bunch of images taken last summer, some of them of satellites many here will have never seen before.

The images must have been captured during the challenge period.  However, there is no restriction on posting the imaging boards
