Brief But Interesting

5.50pm Sunday, Moon (waxing crescent), 25deg, W of S.  Clouds coming and going, but worth a look before the Moon went behind trees.

Decided to use the "middle frac", the AR102S, for a change, and put it on the Celestron GoTo, which limits its altitude, but for the lowish Moon, no problem!

A beautiful sight in clear moments, focusing on Mare Crisium and the familiar line of Swift, Peirce, and Picard.  West of the latter two was a very clear snake-like formation - a sort of long, narrow S - which I took to be the Oppel Ridge.  Going from x34 to x75 however showed that the lower part was in fact the western edge of the otherwise ill-defined and shallow crater Yerkes.

A pleasant 30 minutes, with the benefit of tracking from the mount carrying an unfamiliar load!

Doug.
