Venus by a newbie

Here's a pic of Venus taken through a Celestron NexStar 114SLT. Camera just held onto eyepiece - investing in a mount soon.

Let me know what you think - any advice or criticisms welcome.

Looks OK to me Mike - especially as you've simply held your camera to the eyepiece!

You will obviously obtain sharper images when you fit a camera mount to the scope.

You can see the chromatic aberration introduced by the afocal method's use of too much glass. Venus is a notoriously difficult target to practice your skills but this looks focused to my not very experienced eye.

Great start Mike, I remember back to my days of hand holding a camera to the eyepiece, it was great to see instant results. Onwards and upwards, the expense starts now ....

You could try cropping out some of the blank area in the image to improve the presentation a bit.

The CA is probably down to atmospheric refraction more than the optics. I imaged Venus the other day and the atmosphere was smearing the image significantly wiht CA.
