Hi, looking for a good sturdy steel legged tripod for my Meade LXD55 mount to drop on to, needs to have the alt az post built in or capability for a screw in post.

Would any one know of any suitable tripod ?

Thanks in advance

Edwin

I have an LXD 55 aluminum tripod. It seems to be broadly compatible with the EQ5 / HEQ5 tripod tops. The north peg might be a slightly different design though. It is in the same place but might be shorter or with a slightly different profile. If you got an EQ5/ HEQ5 steel tripod you could probably modify the north peg shape to get it to fit the LXD 55.

      After a very sturdy tripod and 'head/mount?' for general photography at the current moment but to also use for a Sky guider when I get one in the future
      My questions are;
      Which tripod do I need to handle a small scope and or camera with a big lens attached to sky guider, Tripod budget less than £100 Which sky guider should I go for to image the milkyway and nebula? probably 6-8 lbs payload? Budget less than, £400 Do sky guiders come with their own mount? I heard something about a ball head, mount budget less than £50 Is there anything else I may need with what I have mentioned, power, adaptors, filters etc. Much appreciated, I am new here so I hope this is ok to ask. I currently own a NEQ6 with two small telescopes which I have problems with that I will discus in another topic, so I know how to image that way, but I fancy something small and less stressful in the meantime.

      Hi there wondering if anybody has experience of using the Avalon T-Pod range of tripods.  I had my eyes set on an Altair Astro Starbase as an addition to my field observation platform, unfortunately production of these beasts has been suspended for the moment (issues with production costs v market price point).  I am consequently looking for an alternative and was wondering about the T-Pods.   One of the things that attracted me to the Starbase in the first place along with its ultra stable design, was its large adjustable feet.  I find that normal tripod feet on my back lawn, are not stable, they tend to sink into the soil during the course of an observing session.  The T-Pod feet look to be rather narrow in comparison to the Starbase, can anyone provide an opinion on their performance/stability in a lawn setup?

      Kind Regards
