Hi,
Just got an asiair pro and am setting things up. Have updated to the latest firmware.
The aap and my ss2k seem to connect OK. However when I issue a goto command to the ss2k, nothing actually happens at the mount.
However the 4 directional arrows on the aap ui work fine and do indeed make the mount move.
Any clues please?
regards
Andrew

Have you got tracking set to on (and mount unparked)?

hi there,

Thanks for the reply. Those aren't terms I'm 100% familiar with in this context. With this mount: you put the scope in horizontal, power it up and press enter, then it's tracking. I don't think it has a park function.

I'm thinking maybe the asiair won't let me do any goto stuff until I have attached a camera to it and it can see where it is for itself, even though it should be able to get that position info from the mount (like sky safari does for example)? Due to the weather this is an indoor shakedown....

Which mount have you got ? most mounts have a default park position, have you tried without Sky Safari involved, you can select a star in the ASAIR app and GoTo it, plate solve it to centre it and sync the mount to it.

Need camera connected to do this.

Hi Dave,

Yes I have not been involving Sky Safari, that was more to prove to me that the cable is good for computer to mount comms.

I have a vixen skysensor 2000pc on a great polaris mount.

am going to try with camera connected, however even though the asiair is recognising my canon 40D, but it doesn't seem able to control it!

regards

Andrew

I think there are some instructions on the ZWO site for connecting  specific mounts.

My 60Da connects and works ok using the USB cable so your 40D should work, don't forget to check the green on / off switch in the camera control settings which seems to have a habit of disconnecting at the slightest excuse.

thanks Dave. turns out I had a dodgy USB cable which is now in the bin! lol 40D working fine with USB and a shutter release cable.

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the correct forum for this thread but thought it was close enough to topic 🙂
In prep for my Pulsar Obsy build a couple of months from now I’m looking to get ahead of software requirements for the dome.  Can anybody provide advice on a decent ‘Skinny’ software stack for mount and dome control.  Observing has been simple for me thus far, only need to worry about mount control.  However,  I got to thinking about how clumsy and inefficient things would be if goto commands were two separate unrelated actions one for mount control from my chosen planetarium software SkySafari, and then having to reach over and key in the Azimuth setting for dome position.   As far as I know there is no dome control interface from SkySafari, so it looks like this will be achieved via an RDP session into my Intel NUC and thence to the dome controller.   No big deal I guess this will just join my Atik Horizon control Software.  What is my best solution for joint mount and dome control?
      Kind Regards
      Paul.

So after ordering my Asiair Pro and waiting a month for it to come I’ve made the schoolboy error of not understanding how to connecting it up successfully and now I’m left wondering what I need.

after 40 minutes trying to polar align I finally got the first plate solve! Then nothing from the mount..... I believe I need a cable to connect the hand controller to the asiair pro. But I can’t find anywhere which one is best to get!

Im unsure if I can just use a usb a to usb b cable or if I need a serial to usb or what. Hopefully someone can help!

      Hi all,
As i am soon to be the proud owner of a Vixen Polarie star tracker i am looking for some advice from the experts here on SGL with regards to widefield imaging with the Vixen Polarie.
I will initially be using it with a modified Canon 600D so am looking for advice on which lens would be best suited to use with it, I have already been pointed in the direction of the Samyang 135mm which by all accounts is a pretty good contender, so aside from that particular lens what other/s would you recommend that are Canon fitting,
      Thanks in advance 🙂

      Guys

just wondering what options are available for me to upgrade the standard SXW Vixen clamp to enable it to accept Losmandy style dovetails.  I recently acquired a CGE dovetail that I would like to use with my 8” Edge.

      Kind Regards

Hi there everybody, hope you are all keeping sane during COVID.  As already revealed in an earlier thread I will be building an observatory this year.  Whilst it’s a bit early for the exterior elements of the build, I’m keeping busy putting together all the accessories I will need from an interior perspective.  In doing so I’ve discovered a couple of thorny issues.
1/.  I will need a 2.1mm power lead from Vixen to connect up to my new Pegasus UPB2; oh and just saying, what a fantastic piece of kit it is too.  If needs be I can always buy in the whoppingly over-priced AC/DC adapter from Vixen, however I really would like to power everything from a central core, rather than adding to the electrical spaghetti with independent power units.
2/.  There is also an issue with my Atik Horizon.  Due to the fact that my little SXW is already stressed to the max, I can’t go with the preferred format of mounting the UPB2 on the mount or OTA, instead I will have to locate it as high up the pier as I can, which means that the power cable needs to be longer.  In addition, I will need to source a power lead from somewhere that will interface to the UPB2 and the Atik.  Had a look on the Atik website and there don’t seem to be any options in this regard.
So I’m hoping that someone has had to deal with similar issues in the past and will be able to offer some much needed advice.😀

      Kind Regards
      Paul.
