M51

Hi all this is my first go at the M51 and as ever I was pleased just to get an image, 12x5 minute 3 darks 3 flats no filters taken with a Canon dslr 500mm lens with a 1.4 and a 2x TC all CC welcome,,,Paul.

For first time imaging it, you have done very well Paul.

It is nice and bright, and the spiral arms a very well defined. An experienced imager would be quite pleased with that one. I cannot see much difference between the two though.

I only neutralized the BG but I think it needs to be darker because the histogram did not reach the left hand side,,,Paul.

Beautiful work Paul, nice contrast in the spirals!!

The small galaxy in the corner is IC 4263 (mag 15.7) and I see a lot of other galaxies in there too, including four PGCs that are mag 18.. well done!

Lovely work Paul. You've done a great job sorting out the background and that 3rd image is sweet.

It looked like the problems might have been related to an overstrong flat.
