Some doubles in Andromeda

Recommended Posts

After a quick look at Mars and the Moon, last night I observed and imaged some double stars in Andromeda. My observations started with Almach which was lovely. Pale yellow and aquamarine hues. It was difficult to image it at just 9.4 arc sec of separation but I will try again in the future to get an image of it. I moved onto 56And and 59And next. Then a couple of Struve doubles 72 and 112. All very nice visually. The images below are are these last doubles. The final one Struve 112 was particularly nice. If you zoom in you will see the yellow component looks decidedly egg shaped at around the 9 o’clock position. This is due to a faint third star which was cleanly split visually in my 140mm refractor.
